Rohit Sharma overtakes MS Dhoni to become India's 5th highest run-scorer in ODI cricket

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma became India’s 5th highest run-scorer in ODI cricket.
In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match between India and Netherlands on Sunday, November 12, Team India captain Rohit Sharma had a standout performance, achieving multiple notable feats. Sustaining his impressive form, Rohit secured his third half-century in the tournament, scoring an excellent 61 runs from 54 balls.
During his innings, Rohit not only broke AB de Villiers’ all-time record for the most sixes in ODIs in a calendar year but also surpassed the legendary MS Dhoni in the list of highest run-scorers for India in ODIs. His 61-run contribution against Dutch took his career ODI runs to an impressive 10,615 in 260 matches, showcasing an outstanding average of 49.14 and a remarkable strike rate of 91.63. This impressive record includes 31 centuries and 55 fifties.
With this achievement, Rohit now stands as India’s fifth-highest run-getter of all time in ODIs, surpassing Dhoni, who wrapped up his illustrious ODI career for India with 10,599 runs in 294 innings, maintaining an average of over 50 and a strike rate of 87.13. Notably, MS Dhoni played 3 ODIs for Asia XI and scored 174 runs for that side in One-day internationals.
Rohit Sharma Shatters Records: A Prolific Performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup
Rohit Sharma made history with his 61-run innings against Netherlands in World Cup. He broke AB de Villiers’ eight-years-old record for the most sixes in ODIs in a calendar year, hitting his 59th six in the match. Rohit, previously tied with De Villiers at 58 sixes, needed just one more to surpass the former South African player.
During his innings, Rohit hit two additional sixes, bringing his total sixes in ODIs in 2023 to 60, the highest by any batter in a calendar year. He also exceeded former England skipper Eoin Morgan’s record for the most sixes by a captain in a single edition of the World Cup, reaching 24 sixes in the World Cup 2023, surpassing Morgan’s 22 sixes in the 2019 edition.
Moreover, Rohit broke Sourav Ganguly’s record for the most runs by an Indian captain in a single edition of the World Cup. Hitman scored 503 runs in nine matches in the World Cup, surpassing Ganguly’s previous record of 465 runs as captain in the World Cup 2003.
