Rohit Sharma is expected to lead India in the ODI series in Australia.
The Indian Cricket Team ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, who has been out of the cricketing action since the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year, has been putting in the hard yards to be fit for the next assignment, which will be against Australia in October.
Being only active in ODIs now, Rohit Sharma will have an uphill task to maintain his fitness. There were a lot of doubts about his fitness, and when he reached the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (COE), many doubted him, saying that he wouldn’t clear the tests.
Rohit Sharma underwent fitness tests at the COE on 30th and 31st August. After general fitness tests, the Indian ODI skipper underwent the newly introduced Bronco test, a rugby-based endurance evaluation designed to gauge players’ stamina and agility.
Rohit Sharma aces Bronco and Yo-Yo tests

The Bronco test involves shuttle runs between marked distances of 20, 40, and 60 meters, done repeatedly without rest. Rohit, 38, also featured in it and to many’s surprise, he not only cleared the test but aced it, impressing everyone with his fitness, as per the reports in MyKhel.
The reports claimed that Rohit’s physical form and stamina at the test were excellent, showing no signs of age slowing him down. Not only did he ace the Bronco test, but he also aced the Yo Yo test, and this potentially puts an end to all rumours about his retirement.
Many reports claimed that the ODI series against Australia can be his last as selectors aren’t looking at him for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. However, Rohit himself has expressed his desire to lead the team in the tournament and win it to end his career on a high note.
In the last ODI that Rohit played for India, he won the Man of the Match. The batter slammed 76 runs in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and helped his team lift the tournament. As a captain too, he has been sensational and would be eager to give his best in the Australia tour.
