During the IND vs BAN warm-up match, a fan breached the security and entered the playing field to hug India captain Rohit Sharma.

A fan of Rohit Sharma breached the security at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, during the IND vs BAN warm-up game to hug the India captain.

While in India pitch invaders often get away with only some thrashing from the police and get glorified on social media, it’s not the same in the US, where the police department considers this a serious breach and goes hard on the perpetrator.

During Bangladesh’s innings, when Rohit was fielding inside the 30-yard circle, a fan of his jumped over the advertisement boards, sprinted onto the field and came near the India skipper to hug him.

However, he wasn’t successful in his desire as only moments after he had reached Rohit Sharma, a US police official came charging near them and grabbed the pitch invader. The policeman thumped the person down to the ground in dominant fashion before another policeman came running in. Both then started to handcuff the pitch invader.

It was a violent scene in the middle of the cricket ground. Rohit Sharma, worryingly, tried to ask the security to go easy on the pitch invader, but they were having none of it. A couple of more policemen joined them and the pitch invader was escorted out of the field.

It is not yet known if any charges have been pressed against the pitch invader.

Talking about the match, India beat Bangladesh by 60 runs. Rishabh Pant was the top-scorer for India with 53 runs in 32 balls. Captain Rohit Sharma didn’t have a great outing as he managed 23 runs in 19 balls. Suryakumar Yadav scored 31 runs in 18 balls, while Hardik Pandya blasted 40* runs in 23 balls to take India to 182. In reply, Bangladesh managed to score 122 runs.

India’s first match of the tournament is against Ireland on June 5 in New York.
