Rohit Sharma scored 92 runs against Australia in the Super 8 match on June 24.

It was a record-breaking night for Indian captain Rohit Sharma as he dismantled the Australia bowling attack with his aggressive batting display in Super 8 clash at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, on June 24 in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

After being asked to bat first, India lost veteran batter Virat Kohli for a duck in the second over. However, skipper Rohit unleashed his beast mode against pacer Mitchell Starc in the third over. Starc went for 29 runs which set the tone for India’s innings.

Rohit smashed 92 runs off 41 deliveries which included seven boundaries and eight maximums at an explosive strike rate of 224.39. During his knock, Rohit Sharma achieved a few cricketing records.

1. First batsman to hit 200 sixes in T20I cricket

Rohit Sharma became the first batter to hit 200 sixes in T20I cricket. The veteran opener achieved this feat during the Super 8 clash against Australia in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

During his 92-run knock against the Mitchell Marsh-led Australia, the Indian captain Rohit attained the historic feat by becoming the first ever captain to hit 100 or more sixes in the shortest format in international cricket.

After smashing eight sixes against Australia in their Super 8 clash in the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit surpassed legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s record of hitting most sixes by an Indian batter in an innings at T20 World Cups.

Yuvraj had hammered seven maximums against England in the T20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa. That included six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad.

4. Highest run-scorer in T20Is

During the match, Rohit also became the highest run-scorer in T20Is. After his 92 runs, Sharma has 4165 runs in the T20Is, 20 more than Babar Azam.
