Rohit Sharma went past Chris Gayle to hit the most sixes in international cricket history.

It was a record-breaking game for Team India and captain Rohit Sharma in Delhi. India thrashed Afghanistan by 8 wickets and 15 overs to spare and jumped up to second spot in the points table of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Rohit led the win with the fastest World Cup hundred by an Indian batter off just 63 balls. He ended up scoring 131 runs off 84 balls.

Rohit also completed 1000 runs in World Cup as became the joint-fastest batter to achieve this feat in 19 innings. David Warner is the other batter who did it earlier this tournament. The Indian captain hit five sixes and 16 boundaries in his innings and scored his seventh World Cup century, going past Sachin Tendulkar's tally of most of six World Cup hundreds.

Rohit Sharma replies to Chris Gayle praising him for breaking most international sixes record.

Not just these World Cup records; Rohit also went on to break the world record set by Chris Gayle for most international sixes. Rohit needed three sixes to break Gayle's record, and he hit five sixes. Gayle had 553 sixes in 551 innings, while Rohit has now hit 556 sixes in just 473 innings.

Reacting to that, Gayle shared a post and tweeted, "Congrats, @ImRo45 - Most Sixes in International cricket. #45 Special."

And now the Indian captain has reacted to Gayle's tweet. Rohit took to his Twitter (now X) and replied, "Thanks CG 4&5 on the back but our favorite number is 6." The Indian captain looked in pretty good touch in the game after getting out on a duck in the opening game against Australia in Chennai.

India will hope that Rohit Sharma continue this form and help India win the most awaited game against Pakistan. Both arch-rivals will now lock horns on October 14 in the world's biggest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both teams have won their first two games of the competition, and a win in that game will help the winner take one step closer to the semi-finals.
