Rohit Sharma blasted two half-centuries in the first two ODIs against Sri Lanka.
India captain and opener Rohit Sharma is having a terrific SL vs IND ODI series as a batter. He was the standout batter for India in the first two ODIs when he cracked consecutive half-centuries, though his teammates faltered later in chases in both games.
At the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, in the first ODI, Rohit scored 58 (47) in the chase of 231. The match ended in a tie. In the second ODI, he whacked 64 (44) in the chase of 241. India lost by 32 runs.
These scores in what is his first ODI series since last year’s World Cup saw him topple Virat Kohli from the third spot in the latest ICC men’s ODI batter ranking.
Rohit Sharma replaces Virat Kohli, closes gap with Babar Azam and Shubman Gill
Sharma moved up one place in the ODI batter ranking to the third place and Kohli dropped down to the fourth position. Kohli has scored 38 runs combined in the two ODIs.
Rohit now has 763 rating points and is only 61 points behind the top-ranked men’s ODI batter Babar Azam. In the second position is Rohit’s opening partner Shubman Gill with 782 rating points. Gill has managed to hold onto his position despite scoring only 51 runs in two ODIs against Sri Lanka.
India wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has also made improvements in the ICC men’s ODI bowling rankings. Kuldeep’s 2/33 in the second ODI helped him jump five places to number four in the bowlers ranking and is joint with Mohammed Siraj. Keshav Maharaj leads the ODI bowlers ranking and is followed by the Australian pair of Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa.
