Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might feature in the first match of the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru.

Superstar India cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could make their return to domestic cricket with the upcoming Duleep Trophy and might even be seen competing against each other.

The Duleep Trophy comprises six four-day red-ball games, starting September 5. While Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh is the designated venue for this competition, the first match will be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This is because the BCCI has asked several Indian international players to feature in it.

The board has reportedly told KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, and Yashasvi Jaiswal to take part in the first match, while Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been given the option to skip it.

Mohammed Shami, who is undergoing rehabilitation after ankle surgery, is not expected to participate and he could make his comeback straightaway in the test series against Bangladesh, which will get underway on September 19.

Will Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma play in the Duleep Trophy match in Bengaluru?

As of now, their availability has not been confirmed yet. Rohit and Kohli have been given the option by the BCCI to skip the Duleep Trophy. “It’s up to them whether or not to play,” a source told Cricbuzz.

Rohit’s last appearance in domestic cricket was in 2021 and Kohli’s in 2015.

India have a spate of test matches coming up and hence the senior duo might decide to skip the Duleep Trophy.

India will host Bangladesh for two tests, followed by a three-match test series against New Zealand. After that, the Asian giants will tour Australia for a five-match test series, starting November 22.
