Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were in the top five rankings last week.
The Indian Cricket Team batters, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have been in the news for the last few months. Being only active in ODIs, the talks related to their retirements have been the talk of the town.
Some reports have suggested that the upcoming ODI series against Australia will be their last them. So far, there hasn’t been any official statement on the same, but the talks related to their retirement have been in the news with reports suggesting they are not in plans for ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.
Amid all this, Rohit and Kohli have faced another setback. Both the batting legends have been removed from the ODI rankings of the International Cricket Council (ICC). This comes as a surprise because both batters were in the top 10 last week.
While Rohit was ranked at two with 756 points, Kohli was at fourth with 736 rating points. However, now both the batters are nowhere in the scenes, and Shubman Gill is the top-ranked batter in the ICC ODI rankings.
Shreyas Iyer is the second Indian batter in the top ten rankings with him being stationed at sixth on 704 points. The other Indian in the top 20 is KL Rahul, who is at 13th place with 630 points. On the other hand, Babar Azam, who was replaced by Rohit from the second spot, is back there.
Why have Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli vanished from the ICC ODI rankings

The reason behind Rohit and Kohli’s disappearance from the ICC ODI rankings is a technical glitch on the backend of the ICC website. This means that the rankings will be updated soon, and both batters will be back at their respective spots.
For the unversed, as per ICC’s rules on rankings, a player can be removed from the rankings if they haven’t played the game within the qualifying period, which is 12-15 months for tests and 9-12 months for ODIs and T20Is.
Rohit and Kohli last featured in the ODIs during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which was played in February-March this year. Both batters played a key role for India in the tournament and helped them win the title.
