Rohit Sharma won the Player of the Match award during the India vs Australia match in the ICC T20 WC 2024.

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has revealed the talks in the dressing room ahead of the clash against Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Under Sharma’s captaincy, India won the tournament in June last year by defeating South Africa in the final, ending their 11-year wait for an ICC title.

India outplayed Australia by 24 runs in their last match of the Super 8 round to book their berth in the semi-final. With the victory, the Rohit Sharma-led side also avenged their previous defeat against Australia in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

During the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Australia defeated Bangladesh but lost to Afghanistan in the Super 8 round. Hence, they needed to beat India to seal a spot in the semi-finals. However, Australia lost the match, and eventually India and Afghanistan made it to the semi-finals from their group.

Rohit Sharma reveals talks in dressing room ahead of Australia clash

During an interview with Star Sports, Sharma revealed how Indian players were eager to take revenge against Australia ahead of their clash in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

“Australia had ruined our and the whole country’s November 19 in ODI WC Final, so we should also give them a gift. These kinds of things were talked about in the dressing room. We had it in our minds that if we win this match, Australia will be out of this T20 World Cup,” the right-handed batsman said.

Notably, Australia crushed the red-hot favourites India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final by six wickets. India did not lose a single match during the tournament except for the final, and dominated every team. However, Pat Cummins & Co. gave them a big shock in the final at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.

About six months later, India defeated Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to avenge their earlier loss. In the encounter, Sharma won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant 92-run knock. India posted a mammoth 205/5 in the first innings and later restricted Australia to 181/7.
