Romashan Soma Pillay is part of South Africa U19 team in the U19 World Cup 2024.

South Africa will be hosting the 15th edition of the ICC U19 World Cup 2024. South Africa are hosting the U19 World Cup for the third time in their history. South Africa will be looking to replicate their 2014 performance in the upcoming event. The 15th edition is scheduled to begin on 19th January and the finals will be played on 11th February at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.

South Africa have one Indian origin player in their squad for the upcoming mega youth event. All-rounder Romashan Soma Pillay has been picked in South Africa U19 setup for the U19 World Cup. Pillay has already made his List A debut with South Africa emerging squad and is seen as a rising star of South Africa with so much talent and skills.

Who is Romashan Soma Pillay?

Romashan Soma Pillay was born and brought up in Durban. His family had settled in Durban long ago and Romashan Soma Pillay grew up in a family that had keen interest in Cricket. Pillay’s love and journey began when he accompanied his grand parents and father for watching game of cricket. Looking at his son’s keen interest, Pillay’s mother enrolled him to Amanzimtoti Cricket Club.

She was her son’s biggest support in his journey from Amanzimtoti Cricket Club to now South African U19 World Cup team. She accompanied him to most of his game along with Pillay’s sister. Pillay made big stride in the game with her support and went on to represent South African Emerging side recently.

All-rounder Romashan Soma Pillay’s other interests are Golf, Tennis and Football, He considers himself a big fan of legendary South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis. South Africa will be playing their opening game against West Indies in Potchefstroom on 19th January. South Africa are placed in group B along with West Indies, England and Scotland.
