11 people died due to stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 triumph celebrations.

The Karnataka government has held Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise responsible for the Bengaluru stampede that happened during the franchise’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 title victory celebrations on June 4. After winning the IPL title for the first time, RCB franchise organised a victory parade and felicitation ceremony at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

However, the event turned deadly as 11 people were killed and over 50 were injured due to a stampede outside the stadium. Later, some officials of the RCB franchise and DNA entertainment were also arrested in the matter.

RCB defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final of IPL 2025 on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After their victory, celebrations began in the team’s home city, Bengaluru. The franchise decided to organise a felicitation ceremony on the next day, June 4, at RCB’s home stadium.

However, due to mismanagement, a stampede occurred near one of the games of the stadium and nine people were killed.

Karnataka govt hold RCB responsible for Bengaluru stampede in its report

The Karnataka government has submitted a status report on the matter. The state government urged the Karnataka High Court to keep the report confidential, however, the latter made it public on Thursday.

The report mentioned that RCB management, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and DNA Entertainment decided to hold the victory celebrations without getting the necessary permission from the authorities.

“The RCB Management, in association with its event management partner, DNA Networks Private Limited, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), unilaterally decided to hold the victory celebration without prior consultation with the police and without obtaining the necessary permissions or license for such celebration,” the report said.

As per the report, KSCA CEO Subhendu Ghosh submitted an application to Cubbon Park police on June 3 on behalf of DNA Entertainment for RCB’s intention to oragnise a victory parade if RCB win the final. However, police denied the permission due to proposal being made at a very short notice.

Despite being denied permission, RCB management posted an invitation on their social media channels about the victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Meanwhile, a CID investigation is underway in the matter. RCB currently await the findings of the investigation, which is in its final stage. After the incident, the Karnataka government had clarified that they were not involved in organising the event and felicitated the team since it was a Bengaluru-based franchise.
