Under Smriti Mandhana, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the WPL 2024 title.

While their men’s team couldn’t lift the Indian Premier League (IPL) title even once in 17 editions, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) women’s team lifted the Women’s Premier League (WPL) trophy in the second edition of the competition which was played earlier this year.

Last season, the Smriti Mandhana-led team finished third in the points table. They won two consecutive knockout matches – the Eliminator vs Mumbai Indians and the final vs Delhi Capitals – to win the WPL 2024 title and ended the RCB’s fans’ long wait of a trophy.

RCB headed into the WPL 2025 auction with four available spots and filled it with four Indian uncapped players. Their most expensive purchase was spinner Prema Rawat for INR 1.2 crores. Prema is a 23-year-old leg-spinner from Uttarakhand. She recently picked seven wickets in the Senior Women’s T20 Cup at a terrific economy of 4.6.

RCB also bought Joshitha VJ, Raghvi Bisht and Jagravi Pawar for INR 10 lakhs each. Jagravi was the second-highest wicket-taker in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, with 16 wickets in 11 outings at an economy of 4.

18-year all-rounder Joshitha grabbed the limelight with her power-hitting in the Under-19 T20 Trophy as she clobbered 144 runs at a strike rate of 175.

RCB women players retained before the auction:

Smriti Mandhana (c), Sabbineni Meghana, Richa Ghosh, Ellyse Perry, Georgia Wareham, Shreyanka Patil, Asha Sobhana, Sophie Devine, Renuka Singh, Sophie Molineux, Ekta Bisht, Kate Cross, Kanika Ahuja, Danni Wyatt (traded)
