Vikram Rathour’s tenure as India’s batting coach ended after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 triumph.
On September 18, 2024, Rajasthan Royals (RR) announced the appointment of former India opener Vikram Rathour as their new batting coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Notably, Rathour served as India’s batting coach from 2019 to 2024. Earlier, the Rajasthan-based franchise roped in legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid as their new head coach.
Rathour played six tests and seven ODIs for India before transitioning into a coaching role. As an Indian batting coach, Rathour nurtured several youngsters, including the likes of Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul.
Among the highs of Rathour with the national side were the test series win in Australia in 2020/21 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in Barbados.
Privilege to be part of the Royals family: Vikram Rathour
After becoming the new batting coach of the Rajasthan Royals, Rathour said he is privileged to be part of the Royals’ family. The former cricketer further added that he is excited to work with Rahul Dravid again.
“It’s a privilege to be part of the Royals family. The opportunity to work again with Rahul, and now with a talented group of young cricketers, is exciting. I look forward to contributing to the team’s vision and working toward our goal of developing top-class players for the Royals and for India which can help in winning championships,” Vikram Rathour said.
I’m thrilled to reunite with him: Rahul Dravid on Vikram Rathour
Rajasthan’s newly appointed head coach Rahul Dravid said that he is pleased to part with Rathour again. Dravid hailed Rathour’s calmness, his knowledge of the Indian conditions, and his ability to nurture young talents.
“Having worked closely with Vikram for many years, I can confidently say that his technical expertise, calm demeanour, and deep understanding of Indian conditions make him a perfect fit for the Royals. Together, we’ve built a strong rapport, guiding India to key successes, and I’m thrilled to reunite with him. His ability to nurture young talent and elevate players’ potential will be invaluable as we aim to further strengthen our squad and continue building a world-class team here at Rajasthan Royals,” Rahul Dravid said.
