Ruturaj Gaikwad captained India to gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Indian opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in top form against Australia in the ongoing five-match series. Gaikwad scored a magnificent century against Australia in Guwahati and played a crucial role in the opening partnership along with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 2nd T20I and 4th T20I game. In another major development despite Shreyas Iyer’s return, Gaikwad has been retained as vice-captain of the team.

The Maharashtra right-hand batter Ruturaj Gaikwad is seen as the possible leader of the Indian side in the shortest format of the game. Gaikwad has credited his success to his IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), skipper MS Dhoni. Gaikwad is also seen as a possible successor to Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni will probably be playing his final games in the IPL. Gaikwad has said that the learning from Dhoni helped him grow.

Ruturaj Gaikwad said that MS Dhoni’s presence has helped him a lot in understanding the game. Dhoni said, “The learning from CSK & Mahi Bhai has helped, especially play with the situation and look to take the game. I am trying to continue what I have learned from them.” Gaikwad came into the limelight after his wonderful performance for CSK in the league. He is now a permanent member of the CSK’s playing XI.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is among one of the most improved batters in Indian cricket. Gaikwad had made a few changes in his batting style and now became more dominant against pace bowlers. Gaikwad’s acceleration after a start has also improved as he recently scored 52 runs in the final 3 overs at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. He scored an unbeaten 123 runs in the 3rd T20I to register his first international century for India.

India also won the gold medal in Asian Games 2023 under his leadership. Ruturaj Gaikwad has so far played 18 T20I games for India and is yet to take off in ODI format. Gaikwad has scored 490 runs in 16 innings he batted for India with a stunning batting average of 37.69. His strike rate in T20I cricket stands at 142.02 with one century and 3 half-centuries. India and Australia will be playing the final game of the series in Bengaluru on Sunday.
