SA20 2024: List of teams who have qualified for playoffs
Four out of six teams will make it to the playoffs of the SA20 2024.
The second season of South African T20 League (SA20 2024) is almost at the business end. As the SA20 2024 league round is almost coming towards to its end, final four teams have already qualified for the next round, which is the playoffs round. The playoffs format has been introduced for the first time in the tournament’s short history. The first season was played in semi-finals and final format where top four teams finishing in the points table took in three knockout games.
In the second season of SA20, IPL-like playoffs format has been adapted, where top two teams will face each other in the Qualifier 1, where the winning team will directly go through the finals and the losing team will have another go in the Qualifier 2 when they face winner of the Eliminator clash between third and fourth placed teams.
Let’s take a look at the teams who have qualified for the SA20 2024 playoffs:
1. Durban’s Super Giants:
Durban-based franchise Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) are currently the table toppers in the SA20 2024 points table. They have so far played nine games in the ongoing season with only one game left to be played against Johannesburg Super Kings on 3rd February at Wanderers Stadium. DSG have 32 points with seven victories. They earned four bonus points with massive wins in four league games. Durban are looking set to play in the Qualifier 1 game.
2. Sunrisers Eastern Cape:
SA20 inaugural winners Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) have also qualified for the playoffs round. SEC had a troubled start in the ongoing season as rain had washed out their first game and then they lost their second game against Durban’s Super Giants. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have played nine league games so far and earned 29 points. They won six games and earned two bonus points, while one match ended without a result.
3. Paarl Royals:
Paarl Royals began nicely in the SA20 2024 and won three back-to-back games at the start of the season. MI Cape Town ended their winning streak and soon after that, Royals bounced back nicely. Paarl Royals also have booked their place in the playoffs round with a magnificent campaign so far. Paarl Royals have played nine matches and won five games in the league round. They have 22 points in their account as of now.
4. Joburg Super Kings:
Joburg Super Kings had a troubled start to this season as they had to wait until their fifth game of the season to register their first win. JSK’s tournament opener against Sunrisers Eastern Cape got washed out due to rain and then they lost three games on a trot to MICT, DSG and PR.
Super Kings’ two games in the season got washed out due to rain and they earned four points from those two games. Super Kings also earned a bonus point in the league with a massive win over MICT in a rain-marred match. Super Kings finally booked their spot for the playoffs after a win over DSG in their last league round game by seven wickets.
Despite having equal wins as the bottom two teams – MICT and PC – JSK have made it to the playoffs with more points to their name in the tournament. Super Kings registered only three wins in the group stage of SA20 2024 and earned 12 points from those games.
