The SA20 2025-26 final between Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape took place on January 25 in Cape Town.
The fourth edition of SA20 2025-26 concluded on Sunday (January 25) with an exciting final between Pretoria Capitals (PC) and Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC). A total of six teams squared off in the tournament, playing a total of 34 nail-biting encounters.
After the league stage, SEC finished at the top spot in the points table with 28 points. Out of 10 matches, they won five games and lost three with two no result. Pretoria Capitals and Paarl Royals grabbed the second and third spots respectively with 24 points each. Both teams won five matches and lost four out of 10, including one no result.
With four wins and an equal number of defeats, Joburg Super Kings grabbed fourth place in the points table, becoming the fourth team to book a berth in the playoffs. With two no-result games, they captured 22 points in their kitty.
In Qualifier 1, PC crushed SEC by seven wickets to become the first finalist of SA20 2025-26. However, they later made a comeback by crushing Paarl Royals in Qualifier 2 by seven wickets. Earlier, Royals outplayed Super Kings by 36 runs in the Eliminator but failed to seal a spot in the final.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape won SA20 2025-26 final to win their third title in tournament’s history
In the epic final at Newlands in Cape Town, SEC won the toss and opted to bowl first. While other batters failed to score big, Dewald Brevis (101) hammered a marvellous century for the PC and helped them post 158/7. For SEC, Marco Jansen (3 wickets) was the pick of bowlers.
In the chase, SEC lost openers Quinton de Kock (18) and Jonny Bairstow (0) cheaply, facing big blows at the start. Key batters Jordon Hermann (3) and James Coles (1) too lost their wickets for low scores. However, Tristan Stubbs (63*) and Matthew Breetzke (68*) kept the winning hopes alive with their half-centuries.
Both did a spectacular job in the end to bring the team home by six wickets in the 20th over. Notably, SEC won their third title in the tournament’s history, making a fabulous comeback after losing Qualifier 1 against the same side.
