SA20 2025-26: Will David Miller play against Joburg Super Kings in Eliminator?

David Miller, the captain of Paarl Royals, might be in doubt for the Eliminator of the SA20 2025-26. This match between Paarl Royals and Joburg Super Kings is set to be played at the SuperSport Park, Centurion, on January 22, 2026.

The loser of this match will be eliminated from the ongoing SA20 2026 tournament, while the winner of the match will proceed to the Qualifier 2 match. They will face the loser of the Qualifier 1 match between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals in Qualifier 2 for a chance to play in the SA20 2026 final on January 25.

However, all the focus will be on Paarl Royals’ captain David Miller and whether he’ll play in the Eliminator game, after he suffered an injury in the Royals’ previous encounter against the Joburg Super Kings.

While playing for the Paarl Royals against the Joburg Super Kings in SA20, South African hitter David Miller may have suffered a groin injury. He was hit while fielding, and shortly after, he left the field. Due to what appeared to be a significant injury, the 36-year-old did not bat for the Royals later in the game.

Miller hasn’t given many specifics about his injury following the game, and the exact extent of it is yet unknown.

“I don’t know; we’ll see tomorrow when I pick up. Obviously not ideal,” Miller had said after the match.

It’s unclear if he will play in the SA20 eliminator on January 22, when the Royals will play the Super Kings once more.

Throughout the current SA20 season, the left-hand batsman had been in respectable form. In eight innings, he amassed 196 runs, including the top individual score of 71* against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Throughout the competition, he has maintained an average of 39.20 and a strike rate of 148.48.

Miller’s injury only adds to South Africa’s worries ahead of ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He is the third player from the South African contingent to suffer an injury. Earlier, Donovan Ferreira suffered a fractured shoulder and has been ruled out of SA20’s remaining season. Tony de Zorzi is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained on December 20.

The Proteas management will hope that David Miller’s injury is not serious, as his experience and ability to finish games have made him a key component of South Africa’s T20 plans.
