Muttiah Muralitharan also named the IPL franchise, he loved playing for.

Former Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan has revealed the batter from the Indian team, he had the most difficulty in bowling to during his illustrious career.

Notably, Muralitharan holds the record for most wickets in both Test cricket and ODI cricket. In his amazing career from 1992-2011, Muralitharan played 350 ODIs and picked 534 wickets with a best of 7/30 at an economy of 3.93 with 10 fiver-wicket hauls.

In 133 Tests from 1992-2008, Muralitharan took 800 wickets with a best of 9/51 and had 67 fifers and 22 10-wicket hauls. He was also part of the 1996 World Cup-winning Sri Lankan team. Muralitharan retired from Tests in 2008 after taking his record 800th wicket in his final match against India. He called time in ODIs after Sri Lanka lost the final of the 2011 World Cup to India.

The 51-year-old, who retired from all forms of international cricket at the age of 38, said the batsman he ‘greatly admired’ was West Indies legend Viv Richards.

Muttiah Muralitharan names Virender Sehwag as the toughest batter from India he bowled to

Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan has revealed that ex-Indian opener Virender Sehwag was the most difficult batsman he had bowled to during his illustrious career. Murali was present during an interactive session with the students of SB College on Saturday.

Muralitharan, who remains the only bowler to take over 500 wickets in both formats of the game, revealed that perfecting the ‘doosra,’ the leg-break that looks like an off-break, was the turning point of his career.

“It was Saqlain Mushtaq (former Pakistan off-spinner), who taught me the basics of bowling the ‘doosra’. ‘Doosra’ is a challenging delivery to master, and it took me over three years to bowl it with precision,” Muralitharan said.

Murali, who played for a host of teams in the Indian Premier League, revealed he had a gala of time playing for Kochi franchise in IPL 2011.

“Playing for Kochi Tuskers was a great experience. I hope Kerala will continue to produce more talented cricketers like S Sreesanth and Sanju Samson,” Muralitharan added.
