Sachin Tendulkar was present at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai during Lionel Messi’s GOAT tour of India.
The two titans of their respective sports, Lionel Messi and Sachin Tendulkar, finally crossed paths on Sunday when the Argentine star’s India trip arrived at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
The Master Blaster made his presence known by interacting with Messi, Luis Suarez, and Rodrigo De Paul about thirty minutes after Messi moved to the middle of the famous Indian cricket stadium.
After arriving in Mumbai early on Sunday morning, the 38-year-old Messi—who won the FIFA World Cup in 2022—went to the Wankhede Stadium that evening. Messi began the Mumbai event by tossing some balls at the audience and chatting with Sunil Chhetri, the former captain of Indian football team.
Messi turned his focus to Sachin after meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and the two produced a memorable crossover.
Sachin Tendulkar and Lionel Messi with Sachin’s iconic number 10 jersey
Sachin gifted the Argentina star his famous No. 10 ODI jersey after moving to the center. The audience erupted in cheers at the time, and the presenter made sure to emphasize the No. 10 relationship between the two GOATs. It’s important to note that both icons have the same jersey number.
Notably, it was at the Wankhede Stadium that in 2011, India defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup that year, and Sachin Tendulkar had completed his career-long dream of winning the ICC title.
Additionally, Messi didn’t let Sachin leave empty-handed by giving the renowned Indian batsman a World Cup ball. Following the exchange of mementos, the two had a charming talk while grinning. Additionally, Messi’s interpreter was there to perhaps relay Sachin’s words to Messi.
The presenter also invited Sachin to say a few words, at which point he informed Messi how happy the whole nation is of him traveling to India and visiting several places, allowing the fans to have a close-up look.
“The way you have received all three greats of the game has truly been remarkable. When it comes to Leo, if I have to speak about his game, it wouldn’t be the right platform, and you know what do people talk about him? He’s achieved everything.
We really admire his dedication, determination, commitment, and above all, he’s loved so much because of his humility, the person that he is, and on behalf of Mumbaikars and Indians, I’d like to wish him and his family the very best of health and happiness,” Sachin said.
Messi has previously visited Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Mumbai as part of his GOAT India tour, which will end on Monday, December 15, in Delhi.
