List of all suggestions given by Sachin Tendulkar to improve IPL

Sachin Tendulkar also urged BCCI to scrap the Impact Player rule.
Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was recently felicitated with Greatest Batter of the 21st Century award during ESPN Cricinfo awards. During the event, he was asked about his recommendations to improve the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Master Blaster made three major recommendations for the betterment of the tournament. He believes that these three rule changes will make the tournament fair for both batsmen and bowlers. Below, we look at all these recommendations.
Sachin Tendulkar’s advice to improve IPL
1. Scrap Impact Player Rule
Tendulkar feels that the BCCI should scrap the impact player rule. He feels that bowlers are already challenged a lot across just 20 overs. The addition of one more batsman through the impact player rule has made the job of bowlers more difficult.
Hence, this rule should be removed. The impact rule enables the team to add an extra batsman or bowler in a game. It was introduced in the 2023 edition.
“I feel there are a few things which, on a personal note that I can say, I think the impact player needs to go away. I feel when in a T20 format you just have to play 20 overs, and then you are adding one more batter to that line-up. Where bowlers are already being challenged, I find that imbalance,” he said.
2. 5-over spell for one bowler

As per the current rules, one bowler can only bowl four overs in an IPL match. Hence, the bowling team have to use at least five bowlers in an IPL match. Tendulkar feels that at least one bowler should be allowed to bowl a five-over spell. This will help the captain to use their premium bowler to deliver an extra over.
“One bowler should be allowed to bowl five overs. Because invariably the best bowler of the side is going to bowl that fifth over. Wouldn’t you want to see that best bowler bowl more? The top batters are batting sometimes even 20 overs. Why shouldn’t the best bowler be bowling five overs?” he stated.
3. Bowling powerplay
Tendulkar also suggested tweaking the current powerplay rules. According to the rules, the first six overs allow only two fielders outside the 30-yard circle. Tendulkar feels that this rule should be in place for the first four overs.
Moreover, the next two overs should be bowling powerplay, allowing the fielding captain to place one more extra fielder outside the 30-yard circle. He also added that the fielding team should be allowed to use this bowling powerplay at any moment during the match. He feels that this will give more control to the fielding teams.
“(In) the powerplay of six overs with field restrictions, only two fielders are allowed outside the ring. Let the first four overs be batters’ powerplay with the same field restrictions. Post that, the remaining two powerplay overs should be determined by the fielding captain as and when he wants to take. Those two consecutive overs will also get one fielder extra outside the ring at any stage of the game. So you (the fielding side) are able to control the game better,” he concluded.
