Sachin Tendulkar’s portrait unveiled in MCC Museum, becomes fifth Indian to achieve the feat

Sachin Tendulkar is the fifth Indian to have his portrait in the MCC Museum.
On the first day of the England vs. India third test match at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, a portrait of the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was revealed in the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Museum before play.
One of the best batters to ever play the game is Tendulkar. He scored 34,357 runs in test matches, One-Day Internationals, and one T20I for India during his 24-year international career, which ran from 1989 to 2013.
The icing on the cake is this homage to the Master Blaster. Despite the fact that he never achieved a test century at the Lord’s, Sachin Tendulkar’s legacy now rests where legends should.
Stuart Pearson Wright created the portrait, which will stay at the MCC Museum until the conclusion of the 2025 season, when it will be moved to the Pavilion.
“It was clear that MCC didn’t want this portrait to be in the same format as the previous Indian cricket portraits I made, so a fresh approach was taken with this one. I decided on a composition that focused more on Sachin’s head and also used a heroic, larger-than-life-size scale to give the painting a sense of gravitas and power.
I have often painted a portrait with an abstract background, often a plain color, rather than paint a rendition of an interior or exterior space. This is largely to give focus to the subject’s features and to minimize a context which might define the subject in some way,” the artist described Tendulkar’s portrait.
“It’s a huge honour”- Sachin Tendulkar on his portrait in MCC Museum

This is the fifth painting of an Indian player in MCC’s collections; Pearson Wright painted the portraits of Kapil Dev, Bishan Bedi, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Tendulkar. In contrast to the earlier full-length paintings, Tendulkar’s portrait is a larger-than-life representation of his head and shoulders.
Sachin Tendulkar said to MCC: “It’s a huge honour. 1983, when India won the World Cup, was my first introduction to Lord’s – I saw our captain Kapil Dev lift the trophy. My cricket journey began there. Today, to have my portrait which will go inside the Pavilion – it has been some journey, and it’s a journey that, when I look back, it brings a smile upon my face. I feel I have completed that circle, and it feels special for sure.”
Sachin Tendulkar also shared the pictures on his Twitter account, saying:
I first visited Lord’s as a teenager in 1988, and returned in 1989 with the Star Cricket Club team. I remember standing near the pavilion, soaking in the history and dreaming quietly. Today, to have my portrait unveiled at this very place is a feeling that’s hard to put into words. Life has truly come full circle. I’m grateful, and filled with wonderful memories.
