Sahil Chauhan smoked a world-record 18 sixes in his century against Cyprus.

Estonia batsman Sahil Chauhan now is the record holder for the fastest T20I and T20 century in men’s cricket as the 32-year-old smashed a hundred against Cyprus on Monday in Episkopi. All teams have international status in the shortest format, so this match is recorded as a T20I.

Chasing 192, Chauhan came in to bat at number 4 and turned the momentum of the game on its head. He blasted 18 sixes and only six fours in his spectacular knock of 144* off 41 balls to gun down the tall target in only 13 overs.

Sahil Chauhan breaks Chris Gayle and Jan-Nicol Loftie Eaton’s records

By reaching a three-figure score in only 27 balls, Chauhan broke the records for both the fastest T20I century and the fastest T20 century.

Previously, Namibia batsman Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton held the record for the fastest T20I ton, off 33 balls, which he scored against Nepal four months ago.

In all T20 cricket, West Indies legend Chris Gayle was the record holder for the fastest century. The left-handed opener had blasted a 30-ball ton for his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 season.

So these are the two major records Chauhan broke during his mind-blowing knock.

Apart from this, he smoked 18 sixes, which is also now a world record in men’s T20Is. Previously, Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai’s 16 sixes against Ireland in a match in Dehradun in 2019 topped the sixes chart.

In this knock, Chauhan had reached his half-century in 14 balls, which is not a world record though. Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee holds the record for the fastest T20I half-century, off nine balls, against Mongolia during the Asian Games 2023.
