BCCI appoints Sairaj Bahutule as new spin-bowling coach ahead of IND vs AFG Test

Sairaj Bahutule will guide India in the upcoming test and ODI series against Afghanistan.
After a two-month-long Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Indian Cricket Team are set to restart their national assignments with the test and ODI series against Afghanistan. India will host Afghanistan in a one-off test and three ODI games.
The test match will be played from June 6 to 10. It will be followed by the three-match ODI series. While many senior players have been retained in the squad, a few debutants are also part of the series.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir is also set to resume his duties after a long break of two months due to IPL 2026. With IND vs AFG series around the corner, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came up with massive addition to the team management.
BCCI appoints Sairaj Bahutule as India’s new spin bowling coach
The BCCI has appointed former Indian spinner Sairaj Bahutule as the new spin bowling coach of India.
He recently worked with Punjab Kings in IPL 2026 as their spin coach. He was also part of Rajasthan Royals’ support staff from 2018 to 2021.
From 1997 to 2003, Bahutule played two tests and eight ODIs for India. He had a brilliant record in domestic cricket. He took 630 wickets in 188 first-class matches and 197 wickets in 143 List A games, in a career that spanned around 20 years.
Speaking after his appointment as India’s spin coach, Bahutule said, “It is a tremendous honour to be appointed as the Spin Bowling Coach of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team. Representing India as a player was a matter of immense pride, and the opportunity to contribute to Indian Cricket once again in a coaching capacity is deeply special. I look forward to working with the players and supporting the team’s pursuit of excellence across formats.”
