Former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly recently said winning IPL is tougher than winning World Cup.

Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly in an interview with Aaj Tak claimed that winning in the Indian Premier League is tougher than winning in the World Cup. This statement made a huge uproar among cricket fans and also former cricketers. Ganguly supported his statement with his example. He said that himself being a part of the IPL for the first few years and then with Delhi Capitals, he thinks winning an IPL is a huge task as teams play 17 matches in total and 14 league games. According to Sourav Ganguly, playing such big numbers before qualifying for the next round is a huge task and to carry the momentum is tougher than playing in a World Cup.

Butt slams Sourav Ganguly

Now, former Pakistani opener Salman Butt has come out criticising the Former Indian captain’s statement. Butt said, “Someone asked me that Ganguly said winning IPL is tougher than winning the World Cup, I am shying away from any comment because I did not expect a world-class player and a captain to speak in such a way. There is no comparison between league cricket and test cricket. Miles apart. It’s the ultimate thing in cricket. The other is a local thing where seven players are local and four professionals. It’s an unnecessary opinion or debate. I am surprised to hear that”. There were multiple criticisms of Sourav Ganguly's statement on the comparison between IPL and World Cup.

Salman Butt also accused former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and the board of plotting against Virat Kohli. Butt said, “Kohli was a successful captain, and the way he was being removed step by step… he himself gave it away. I have read my comments claiming that Kohli himself stepped down from captaincy and wasn‘t removed, Listen brother… they created the build-up. Didn’t he say that there was no communication with him”. Earlier Sourav Ganguly said that Virat himself left the test captaincy and BCCI was also surprised.
