IPL 2023: Sam Curran happy that team took responsibility of PBKS batting in Shikhar's absence

Punjab Kings gave a reality check to Mumbai Indians after a hat-trick of wins in their Indian Premier League campaign. Punjab Kings in a high-scoring thriller of a game at Wankhede Stadium defeated Mumbai Indians by 13 runs. Batting first, Punjab Kings scored 214 runs in their 20 overs. Punjab in the last 5 overs took on Mumbai bowlers and they smashed 96 runs. Captain Sam Curran scored 55 runs in 29 balls smashing 5 fours and 4 sixes. Along with him, Harpreet Singh contributed 41 runs in 28 balls and Jitesh Sharma a cameo of 25 runs in 7 balls helped Punjab give MI a 215 target. MI's top order in response had a great start after Ishan Kishan’s wicket.

Captain Rohit Sharma with 44 runs innings added 76 runs with Cameron Green, after that, Green took charge of the inning and had a partnership of 75 runs with Suryakumar Yadav. MI after these partnerships had lost momentum in the chase. Arshdeep Singh with the bowl won the game for Punjab Kings. Rohit Sharma after the loss said, “Not going to look too much into that. Just keep our heads high, we have won three and lost three, pretty even stevens at the moment. There is a lot of time left in the tournament”. Rohit Sharma was happy with Mumbai Indians batting performance.

For the first time this season, Punjab Kings batting had clicked. Punjab middle order smashed Mumbai Indians bowlers out of the park. Sam Curran talking about the batting said, “Without Shikhar, we know we had to take the responsibility. Our group is coming together really well now”. Sam Curran was awarded Player of the Match as well. Curran won the award for his inning of 55 runs. Sam Curran after receiving the award said, “I don’t think I should be getting the Man of the Match considering how the boys closed the game out there”. Sam Curran is leading the PBKS team in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan.
