How many times have teams from same state contested Ranji Trophy final?

Mumbai and Vidarbha will play the Ranji Trophy 2024 final from 10th March.
Mumbai and Vidarbha have qualified for the Ranji Trophy 2024 final after winning their respective semi-final encounters in the tournament. Mumbai defeated Tamil Nadu at BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex Ground) by an innings and 70 runs, while Vidarbha outclassed Madhya Pradesh by 62 runs at VCA Stadium in Nagpur. Mumbai and Vidarbha will play the final from 10th March at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
This is the second time in the history of the Ranji Trophy that two teams from the same state will be taking on each other in the final. Mumbai have qualified for the 48th final in their history, while Vidarbha will be playing their third final in the tournament. Vidarbha won the final on each of the other two occasions in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Rare second occasion in Ranji Trophy
The first instance of two teams from the same state playing in the Ranji Trophy final was in 1971 when Mumbai took on Maharashtra at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai won their 22nd title after defeating Maharashtra by 48 runs. Mumbai is the capital city of Maharashtra and the state has three different domestic cricket sides. Vidarbha is the third team from Maharashtra.
Vidarbha is situated in western Maharashtra and also hosts legislative sessions of the state in winter. Vidarbha play their games at VCA Stadium in Nagpur.
Apart from Maharashtra, the state of Gujarat also has three teams representing it in Indian domestic cricket. Gujarat, Baroda and Saurashtra are the three teams from Gujarat. Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh were also part of the same group, but the formation of Telangana separated the teams, Hyderabad is the capital of Telangana.
