Sameer Rizvi smashed two sixes against Rashid Khan during the CSK vs GT clash in IPL 2024.

Chennai Super Kings young batter Sameer Rizvi announced his arrival in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in grand style when he smashed two sixes against Gujarat Titans’ go-to-bowler Rashid Khan on the first two balls of his IPL career at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on March 26.

The incident happened in the 19th over of CSK’s innings when Titans skipper Shubman Gill brought leg-spinner Khan on to complete his spell. After taking the wicket of Shivam Dube, Khan faced the heat from Rizvi, who was playing his first-ever game.

Rashid first bowled a full-length delivery around leg and middle stump to Rizvi, but he dispatched the ball with a slog sweep into the square leg stands. On the next delivery, the youngster smacked a huge hit over long off, as Rashid tried to outfox him with a tossed-up googly.

The 20-year-old Rizvi departed after hammering 14 runs off six balls, which helped defending champions CSK post a total of 206/6 in 20 overs.

A video of Rizvi’s family cheering for him has gone viral across social media. Its a pleasure to see how happy and proud his family was of him when he was smacking Rashid for two sixes during his blistering knock.

Here is the viral video:

Having played cricket for Uttar Pradesh, the youngster has good T20 numbers, scoring 309 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 137.33, including two half-centuries. At the IPL 2024 mini-auction, Rizvi was acquired by the Super Kings for a whopping INR 8.40 crores.
