Sanjay Manjrekar doesn’t agree with the selectors resting the senior trio from the Duleep Trophy.

Former Indian cricketer and now commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has questioned the Indian selection committee for resting Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma from the upcoming first round of the Duleep Trophy, which will mark the beginning of the domestic red-ball season in the country.

Many star Indian cricketers like KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer will take part in the upcoming Duleep Trophy tournament ahead of the Bangladesh test series. However, the trio of Bumrah, Rohit, and Kohli have been rested from this domestic event.

It is understood that the BCCI have rested the three senior players due to the heavy upcoming season which includes 10 test matches, followed by white-ball games against England and the Champions Trophy 2025.

Recently, BCCI secretary Jay Shah also explained the reason behind the resting of Rohit and Kohli.

“We should not insist on players like Rohit and Virat to play in the Duleep Trophy. They will risk injury. If you have noticed, in Australia and England, every international player does not play domestic cricket. We have to treat the players with respect,” Shah told the media.

I see them as well rested India players: Sanjay Manjrekar

Former cricketer Manjrekar dropped an eye-opening stat, highlighting Rohit, Virat and Bumrah’s appearances for the Indian side in the last five years.

Manjrekar revealed that India has played 249 international matches in the last five years. Out of which, Rohit played 59%, Kohli played 61%, and Bumrah appeared in 34%. Manjrekar felt that the three senior cricketers could have played the Duleep Trophy as they are “well rested”.
