Samson played as an opener during India’s previous T20I series against England earlier this year. However, since Shubman Gill has returned to the T20I side, he might take the opening slot with Abhishek Sharma during Asia Cup 2025.

This means that Samson will have to leave his opening slot and bat in the lower order. Samson has been in a wonderful form for the last few years in the T20I cricket, slamming three centuries last year. There is no doubt that he will be a crucial batsman for the team during the Asia Cup 2025.

Sanju Samson is flexible enough to bat down the order, believes his coach

During a conversation with The Telegraph on the sidelines of Kerala Cricket League (KCL), Samson’s coach and mentor Raiphi Gomez said that the wicket-keeper batsman is flexible to bat in the lower order for India.

“Being a professional and internationally established player, Sanju is flexible enough to make the adjustments if he has to bat down the order. His flexibility is what guides him, and he is very confident about his abilities,” he said.

“Has Sanju said anything about being under pressure? No. So, it’s all outside noise, and we are not really concerned about what is being said outside. Our focus is on making sure Sanju keeps getting better with the bat. He is only concerned about the job he needs to do for India,” he added.

Notably, Samson is currently busy in the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2025, where he is playing for Kochi Blue Tigers. The right-handed batsman has shown a wonderful form in the league, scoring a century and a half-century in the last two games.

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup 2025 will commence on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, are placed in Group A with Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE in their pool. The Men in Blue will face the UAE in their opening game on September 10 in Dubai.
