Sanju Samson undergoes finger surgery; In line to be fit for IPL 2025

Sanju Samson had a disappointing run in IND vs ENG 2025 T20I series.

The last few months have been bittersweet for Sanju Samson in international cricket. The 30-year-old made a great comeback in T20Is with memorable centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa.

His opening combination with Abhishek Sharma seemed set for the long-term future in T20Is. Samson not only replaced Rohit Sharma smoothly at the top of the batting order but also impressed with his aggressive approach in the powerplay.

However, his place in the squad is now in doubt after a poor T20I series against England. The right-hander managed just 51 runs in five games at a strike rate of 119. What caught the eye of the fans was his repeated struggles against the short ball from fast bowlers.

His problems increased in the last T20I of the series in Mumbai, where he injured his finger. This led to Dhruv Jurel taking over wicketkeeping duties in the second innings.

Samson got injured during the fifth T20I against England earlier this month after being hit by a Jofra Archer delivery. The injury ruled him out of Kerala’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Jammu & Kashmir in Pune on February 8.

The Indian wicketkeeper has undergone surgery on his injured finger, and it is expected to take around a month to heal. He is expected to be fit in time for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which will reportedly begin on March 21.

Samson is set to continue to lead Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. He led the team in IPL 2024, where they were knocked out in Qualifier 2 by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

IPL 2025 will be crucial for Samson as he will aim to score big runs and secure his place in India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2026.
