Sanju Samson is one of the many superstars the Indian Premier League (IPL) has produced for international cricket. Starting his IPL career in 2013, Samson instantly grabbed everyone’s attention with his flawless stroke-making abilities.

The Indian wicket-keeper batter has represented two franchises in the tournament so far: Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).

A turning point in his career came when he was appointed captain of RR in 2021. Since taking on the role, he has evolved into a more complete batsman and has started valuing his wicket more.

5. 86 vs Delhi Capitals, Delhi, 2024

Sanju Samson was in sublime form during IPL 2024, scoring 531 runs in the season at an impressive strike rate of 154.

One of his best performances that season came against Delhi Capitals in Delhi. Chasing a huge target of 222 runs, Samson held the fort for RR, scoring 86 off 46 balls, including eight fours and six sixes.

His effort, however, was not enough to guide his team over the line, as RR lost the match by 20 runs.

4. 92* vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Bengaluru, 2018

Sanju Samson played a terrific knock of unbeaten 92 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru in 2018. Batting first, RR made 217/4 on the back of Samson’s 92* off 45 balls, which included two fours and 10 sixes.

He added 73 runs with Jos Buttler for the fourth wicket to provide a strong finish.

In reply, RCB managed only 198/6 in 20 overs, giving RR a 19-run win. Samson was named Player of the Match.

3. 102 vs Rising Pune Supergiant, Pune, 2017

Next on the list is Sanju Samson’s first-ever century in the IPL, which he registered playing for Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils). Batting at No. 3, Samson scored a brilliant 102 against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in Pune in 2017.

After being asked to bat first, Samson made full use of the excellent batting pitch, smashing eight fours and five sixes in his 63-ball stay. Chris Morris’ quickfire unbeaten 38 off just nine balls at the end helped the franchise post a huge total of 205 in the first innings.

Delhi won the game comfortably by a massive margin of 97 runs.

2. 102* vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Hyderabad, 2019

One of Samson’s most memorable IPL innings came in Hyderabad against Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2019 season.

His 102-run knock, which included 10 fours and four sixes, propelled the visitors to a massive first-innings total of 198 runs. He received strong support from Jos Buttler, who chipped in with 70 off 49.

David Warner’s blistering 69 in the run chase meant RR lost the game by five wickets.

1. 119 vs Punjab Kings, Wankhede, 2021

Sanju Samson registered his highest IPL score of 119 during the fourth match of IPL 2021 against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Chasing a mammoth 222-run target, Rajasthan were led by captain Samson, who scored 119 off 63 balls to keep his team in the chase. His innings, which included 12 fours and seven sixes, saw him hold one end while RR kept losing wickets at the other.

Despite his heroics, the Royals lost the match by four runs.
