Good news for Sanju Samson in middle of IPL 2026; India's World Cup hero wins ICC Player of the Month for March

Sanju Samson has been awarded for his brilliant performance in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson is currently busy in the Indian Premier League 2026, where he represents Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The right-handed batsman flopped with the bat in his first three games, getting out for single digits.
However, he rocked in the previous clash against Delhi Capitals, slamming a century at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He registered the first century of this season and helped CSK to win their first game in IPL 2026.
Samson seems to have regained his old form, which he had in the T20 World Cup 2026 last month. Now, he has been awarded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his performances in the T20 World Cup last month.
Sanju Samson named ICC Player of the Month for March
The ICC has named Samson as Player of the Month for March. This is the first time that Samson has won this award. In the T20 World Cup, Samson played a crucial role in India‘s title-winning campaign.
On March 1, his attacking 97* helped India to defeat the West Indies and set up a spot in the semi-final. A blistering 89 against England in the semi-final helped India post 253/7 and eventually win the match by seven runs. In the final against New Zealand, he scored 89 runs to help India secure an easy victory.
In the three T20Is he was a part of in March, Samson scored 275 runs at an average of 137.50 and a stunning strike rate of 199.27. He ended as India’s highest run-scorer in the ICC tournament.
After winning the award, Samson recalled India’s triumph at the T20 World Cup and his brilliant performance.
“Winning the ICC Player of the Month award is an incredible feeling, especially as it comes during what has been the most unforgettable phase of my cricketing journey. Playing a part in India’s triumph at the Men’s T20 World Cup was truly a dream realised, and it took some time for the magnitude of that moment to fully sink in,” he said.
“This is an exciting era for Indian cricket, with immense talent across the board. I feel grateful for the opportunities I’ve received, and for the trust and support from my team-mates and coaching staff that have allowed me to perform at my best,” he added.
