Sanju Samson said that everyone is given equal importance in the team under Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav.

Indian wicket-keeper Sanju Samson has heaped praise on skipper Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir for maintaining a healthy environment in the T20I team. Samson said that everyone is treated equally and given equal importance.

Suryakumar Yadav is leading India in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, where the side has registered three wins in a row. One of star performers in the league stage was Sanju Samson, who in the previous match against Oman on Friday, September 19, was promoted to number three.

The right-hander utilised the opportunity effectively, smacking a half-century (56) in the first innings to drive the total to 188/8. For his heroics, he was adjudged Player of the Match as India crushed Oman by 21 runs in the clash.

Speaking in a video posted by the BCCI after the victory against Oman, Samson said that Suryakumar and Gambhir have maintained a chilled environment in the dressing room, where every player is treated equally.

“I have to give a lot of credit to our team leaders Surya and Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) for how they are keeping the environment. It’s a very chilled environment. It’s a very equal environment. Everyone is treated very equally and everyone is given equal importance in the side,” he said.

“I think that really brings up the best out of yourself and that’s what is required in this format. To be very free and to be responsible. I think the way you give freedom to the team, the teammate,” he added.

Speaking about his performance against Oman, Samson said that he was grateful to get an opportunity to score some runs. Notably, Samson did not get a chance to bat in the first two games against UAE and Pakistan.

“To be honest, I think I’m really grateful to get some time in the middle. I think I’ve been playing a few games back home, but playing for the country, for the Asia Cup, getting some game time in the middle really helped,” he said.

Meanwhile, India will clash with Pakistan in their opening game of Super Four round on Sunday, September 21. The Men in Blue have been unbeaten in the tournament so far, winning their group-stage matches against the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman. With six points, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side finished at the top spot in group A points table to book a berth in the Super Four round.
