No point in making a fuss: Saqlain Mushtaq on India potentially not travelling to Pakistan for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Saqlain Mushtaq said the Champions Trophy 2025 is an ICC event and the apex cricket council will look into the matter.

Legendary Pakistan spinner Saqlian Mushtaq made a blunt remark regarding the Indian cricket team potentially not travelling to Pakistan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Pakistan are the hosts the Champions Trophy next year, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) haven’t given a green signal yet – and are highly unlikely to – in travelling to the neighbouring country due to security concerns and political tensions between the two nations.

Both India and Pakistan haven’t played any bilateral cricket since 2013. The arch-rivals only meet in the ICC tournaments and Asia Cups. 

Pakistan were also the host for the Asia Cup 2023, but India didn’t travel there and therefore the tournament was hosted in hybrid mode. India matches, including the final, were played in Sri Lanka.

If India don’t want to come, it doesn’t matter: Saqlain Mushtaq

Ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, reports in the media have stated that a hybrid model would take place with India’s matches being played either in the UAE or Sri Lanka. However, legendary spinner Saqlain Mushtaq feels that it shouldn’t matter whether the Men in Blue come to Pakistan or not. He added that the ICC must look into this matter.

“It’s simple. If India wants to come, they can. If they don’t want to come, it doesn’t matter. There’s no point in making a fuss about it. This won’t make either party good or bad. This is ICC’s event, and they will look into this matter, as they should,” Mushtaq was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played from 19 February to 9 March.
