Sarfaraz Khan has been named in India’s squad for the first test against Bangladesh.

Team India batsman Sarfaraz Khan has been named in the 16-man squad for the first test against Bangladesh, which will start on September 19 in Chennai. The Indian players will assemble in Chennai on September 12 for a preparatory camp.

However, Sarfaraz will not be joining the rest of the squad members in the preparatory camp as he has reportedly been told to stay back with India B and feature in the second round of Duleep Trophy 2024.

Sarfaraz played in the first round of the Duleep Trophy for India B against India A in Bengaluru. While he failed in the first innings, scoring only nine runs, in the second innings, he played a quickfire knock of 46 runs in 36 balls.

The second round of the ongoing domestic competition is scheduled from September 12 to 15, while the Chennai test gets underway on September 19.

Apart from Sarfaraz, all other squad members are likely to miss the second round of the Duleep Trophy and start training in Chennai. The Mumbai batsman, though, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo, has been asked to play one more domestic red-ball game before linking up with the test squad.

Sarfaraz made his test debut earlier this year at home against England.

The right-hander had a great time with the bat in his debut test series as he cracked three half-centuries in five innings. He scored 200 runs in five innings at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 79.

India squad for first test vs Bangladesh:

Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
