The Indian Cricket Team are all set to take on Sri Lanka in the two-match Test series. The series, which is also part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27, will begin on August 15 in Galle.
India have already been jolted by quite a few injury blows. To begin with Harshit Rana, hamstring injury, Nitish Kumar Reddy, hamstring injury, and Washington Sundar, quadriceps injury, and Akash Deep, lower-back stress fracture, were ruled out.
To worsen the case more, Jasprit Bumrah, also was ruled out of the series due to knee injury. If this was not enough, Sai Sudharsan was the latest entrant in the list as he got ruled out of the series due to toe injury. The batter was earlier named in the squad but his availability was subject to fitness.
On Sunday, BCCI released the official statement on the same and stated:
“Sai Sudharsan has been ruled out of the Test series against Sri Lanka. The left-handed batter, who has been at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, has made significant progress in his recovery from the right toe stress reaction and is recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his progress.”

With Sai Sudharsan being ruled out, BCCI named Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement. The Mumbai batter last played for India in the 2024 and then continued scoring runs in domestic cricket, which made selectors give him a recall.
The BCCI stated:
“The Men’s Selection Committee has named Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. He will link up with the Indian squad in Colombo before the team travels to Galle for the first Test match, starting August 15, 2026.”
