Sarfaraz Khan last played for India against New Zealand last year.
India and Mumbai cricketer Sarfaraz Khan was a notable name that was absent from the recent 15-member squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector Ajit Agarkar for the upcoming two-match test series against the West Indies that begins on October 2.
The Indian Cricket Team will play two tests against the West Indies, with the first match to be played at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2nd. The second test between the two sides will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10.
The Shubman Gill-led Indian squad saw Ravindra Jadeja being named vice-captain as Rishabh Pant misses out due to his toe fracture injury. Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Sai Sudharsan retain their places from the England series. However, Karun Nair was dropped from the squad after he managed to score only 205 runs in eight innings during the England tour.
Devdutt Padikkal, who impressed on the Australia tour and in India A matches, has been selected for the middle-order spot. Dhruv Jurel and N. Jagadeesan have been named as the wicket-keepers, with Nitish Kumar Reddy being the pace-bowling all-rounder.
Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Jasprit Bumrah are the pacers, with Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel being the spinners.
Sarfaraz Khan showcases his fitness after being termed injured by Ajit Agarkar

Sarfaraz Khan was a notable name missing from the Indian squad. He had made his India test debut against England in 2024 with twin fifties in his first outing. He then scored 150 against New Zealand in the Bengaluru test. However, though he played matches for India A on the England tour, he was not part of the main Indian squad.
Sarfaraz Khan suffered an injury during the Buchi Babu tournament, playing for Mumbai, and when BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar was asked about Sarfaraz Khan’s absence, he replied, “He is injured.”
However, Sarfaraz Khan posted a video of himself undergoing stress fitness tests, including possibly the new Bronco test, to show his fitness, proving Agarkar wrong.
