SCA launches probe after Saurashtra U23 cricketers caught with liquor at airport

Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) to conduct an inquiry after liquor recovered from U-23 cricketers.
Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) has initiated a disciplinary probe following the discovery of liquor bottles in the possession of their U-23 cricketers. The incident occurred on January 25, as the team was returning to Rajkot from Chandigarh after a triumphant victory in the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy.
SCA became aware of the situation when a significant amount of liquor was detected in the cargo area of the plane designated for the cricketers. Authorities at the Chandigarh Airport promptly seized the contraband due to Gujarat’s status as a dry state, where carrying alcohol is strictly prohibited. This revelation came to light after Saurashtra’s successful match against hosts Chandigarh.
SCA U23 cricketers found with liquor
Gujarat’s dry state policy prohibits the possession and transportation of alcohol within their borders. The SCA, recognizing the severity of the situation, issued a statement expressing their dismay and deeming the incident.
“There has been an alleged incident at Chandigarh that was brought to notice of Saurashtra Cricket Association,” said the SCA in a statement.
The cricket association promptly ordered the Ethics/Disciplinary Committee and Apex Council to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
“The alleged incident is unfortunate and intolerable. Ethics/Disciplinary Committee & Apex Council of Saurashtra Cricket Association to make in-depth examine of the incident and shall take proper disciplinary action,” it read.
It is important to note that while Gujarat strictly prohibits the import of alcohol, the state government does issue permit to visitors, allowing them to purchase alcohol from authorized outlets. This exception, however, does not excuse the alleged actions of the U23 cricketers and the SCA is determined to address the incident appropriately.
