Scott Boland took 10 wickets in the fifth BGT 2024-25 test in Sydney.

All five of Australia’s frontline bowlers are now in the top 15 of the ICC test bowlers ranking after Scott Boland jumped 29 places to settle in the ninth spot following his heroics in the Sydney test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.

Boland picked up 10 wickets in the fifth test of the series against India in Australia’s 10-wicket victory that ensured the hosts won the series by 3-1. With that, Australia reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and also sealed their place in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final.

Replacing the injured Josh Hazlewood in the line-up, Boland was one of the outstanding performers for Australia in the series. The 35-year-old picked up 21 wickets in three tests with one five-for and one four-for. His economy of 2.72 and average of 13.19 was par with Jasprit Bumrah’s.

In the latest ICC test bowlers ranking, Boland jumped 29 spots and stormed into the top 10 for the first time. He now shares the ninth position with Ravindra Jadeja. He even skipped ahead of Mitchell Starc, who is at the 14th spot.

Nathan Lyon is in the 7th position, Josh Hazlewood in fourth, and Pat Cummins in the second spot.

India’s Jasprit Bumrah, who took 32 wickets in the series at 13.06, continues to hold the No. 1 position in the ICC test bowlers rankings.

I am happy playing whenever I can: Scott Boland

On his performances against India, Boland said, “Has been an enjoyable couple of months. The last few weeks have been awesome. Just got my body right. Lot of hours in the gym. To win 3-1 against India, hasn’t been done in a while. I am happy playing whenever I can.”

While he’s been the super-sub in the Australian bowling attack, he is expected to play the lead role in Australia’s test series in Sri Lanka as Hazlewood is injured and Pat Cummins is likely to miss the series due to the impending birth of his child.
