Sanju Samson was not picked in the Indian squad for the Zimbabwe series.
Since the last few days, the Indian Cricket Team has seen only dons. It all started when the Men in Blue, under the leadership of new captain Shreyas Iyer, suffered a whitewash against Ireland, losing both the T20Is in Belfast.
Things got worse for them when the first T20I against England got washed out, followed by a defeat in the second game from the winning position. The team selection has been the major talking point on this tour, and it got further escalated during the second T20I.
Sanju Samson, who was the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup 2026, was dropped to accommodate the young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. This led to a massive outrage among the fans, with many lashing out at the team management.
To worsen the case further, Sanju Samson was also not picked in the team for the Zimbabwe T20Is. While some claimed that the keeper-batter has been dropped, a few suggested that he has been rested as management wants to give more game time to youngsters.
Team management and selectors not on same page over Sanju Samson

Amid all the fuss, a report from a Revsportz journalist has claimed that “there’s a clear disagreement between the selection committee and someone from the team management regarding Sanju Samson.”
After Samson was dropped from the second T20I against England, head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen having an animated chat with the keeper-batter, who also looked visibly frustrated.
Earlier, a report in Times of India also claimed that selectors are unhappy with the inconsistency of Sanju Samson. The inclusion of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was suggested by crucial stakeholders in Indian cricket as they were not willing to make Sooryavanshi wait in the wings.
With India trailing in the ongoing series, the reports of disagreement between the selection committee and some from the team management surely would affect the atmosphere in the team.
Team management would be hoping that they give full freedom to players as they eye making a comeback. The third ENG vs IND T20I will be played on Tuesday, July 7.
