Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf & Fakhar Zaman caught doing ball tampering live in PSL 2026; Umpires hand 5-run penalty: Video

Shaheen Afridi’s Lahore Qalandars hogged the headlines for ball tampering during PSL 2026.

Match 6 of Pakistan Super League (PSL) saw Karachi Kings chase down the 128 target posted by Lahore Qalandars in a last-over thriller. Unlike the IPL where batters are dominating, this PSL match in Lahore saw bowlers dominate and have a great day.

Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets and going for just 11 runs in 4 overs, and was announced as the man of the match. Muhammad Waseem led the chase for Karachi Kings, despite Shaheen Shah Afridi’s four wicket haul effort.

Karachi Kings have now won both their matches so far and find themselves at the top of the points table. Meanwhile, Lahore Qalandars are second placed despite the defeat yesterday.

The LAH vs KK match in PSL 2026 was also marred by a huge controversy. Karachi Kings required 14 runs off the last over, when an unusual incident happened. Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf gathered in a huddle and were caught on live camera trying to tamper the ball to potentially change the condition of the ball so that it swings or works more in their favor.

Fortunately, the umpires were alert enough to spot this, and immediately asked for the ball. Upon inspection, the umpires penalised the fielding team, and rewarded five bonus runs to the batting side as penalty for changing the condition of the ball.

This brought the equation to 9 off 6 balls, with Abbas Afridi finishing off the match with a four and a six to seal the deal.

Shaheen Afridi responds to the controversial ball-tampering incident

During his post-match press conference, Shaheen Afridi, who was at the centre of this controversy, denied allegations of ball-tampering and hoped to see video replays of the same.

“I don’t know about this and we’ll see if it’s there in the camera and discuss what it is. Actually, five runs taken and we can’t do anything. Like, you can’t say. Not for me, my team is fighting till the last ball, which I need for every game”, said Afridi after match.

With incident being in news everywhere, it now remains to be seen what legal action does Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) takes.
