Shai Hope has been the best batter for the West Indies in all three formats since the last few years.
2025 has been a great cricketing year. It saw some of the incredible cricket moments, including the Indian Women’s Team winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. In men’s cricket, there have been some incredible performances recorded this year. West Indian white-ball captain Shai Hope has been one of the top stars in 2025.
Though it has been a great year for West Indies as a team, but Hope has certainly made the most of every opportunity thrown at him. He is currently part of the second test against New Zealand in Wellington.
Hope, who scored 56 and 140 in the first test, was the top scorer for his team in the first innings of the second test. He scored 48 off 80 balls, and his team were bowled out for 205. He missed yet another fifty by just two runs, but in this process, he achieved a big milestone.
Shai Hope surpasses Shubman Gill to become the leading scorer in 2025 in international cricket

Shai Hope has been the backbone of West Indian batting for a few years now. Even on the tour of New Zealand, he has scored the most runs from his team. His 48-run knock in the first innings in Wellington has helped him go past Indian test captain Shubman Gill for most runs in 2025 in international cricket.
Hope has played 41 matches so far and scored 1749 runs at an average of 42.65. He also has five centuries and nine half-centuries. Gill has 1736 runs in 33 matches with seven centuries and three half-centuries.
With a few innings remaining in 2025, two stars are vying for the top spot. Hope has three innings to bat in the ongoing test series in New Zealand, while Gill has four T20I innings against South Africa. Both batters will look to reach 2000 runs in 2025 by the end of December.
Gill, who made his return from an injury in the first T20I against South Africa in Cuttack, could only score a 2-ball 4. He will be back in action in the second T20I in Mullanpur on Thursday.
