Shakib Al Hasan has been named in an FIR in a murder case in Dhaka.

Earlier this month, veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s name appeared among the 156 people who have been accused in the murder of Mohammad Rubel, a garment worker in Dhaka, during the anti-government student protests in the country.

In the case filed with the Adabor police station last week, Rubel’s father, Rafiqul Islam, alleged local Awami League leaders and activists for the murder of his son. This list included Shakib and the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

After the filing of the FIR, a Supreme Court lawyer, Shajib Mahmood Alam, sent a legal notice to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) through email and registered post on behalf of Advocate Md Rafinur Rahman. The notice asked for the removal of the all-rounder from international cricket with immediate effect since he has been registered in an FIR.

This happened when Shakib was playing in the first test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. At that time, BCB president Faruque Ahmed said that they would take a decision on Shakib after the conclusion of the first test.

Will Shakib Al Hasan play in 2nd test vs Pakistan?

Yes, BCB president Faruque Ahmed has confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan will feature in the second test against Pakistan and he will continue playing for Bangladesh until he is proven guilty of the murder by the court.

“He [Shakib] will continue playing. We received a legal notice regarding bringing him back and we replied them saying this [that he will continue to play],” Faruque was quoted as saying by Prothom Alo on Tuesday.

“Right now the FIR is filed and it is in the initial stage and there are a lot of steps after this and until he is proven guilty we will make him play. The Bangladesh team will go to India after the Pakistan series and we want him in that series as well.

“He is our contracted player and if necessary we will give him legal assistance,” he added.

The second test in Rawalpindi will start on August 29. Shakib will not return to Bangladesh and instead fly to England to play a first-class match for Surrey before flying to India, where Bangladesh will play two test matches from September 19.
