Shakib Al Hasan has been included in Bangladesh squad for the first test against South Africa.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the opening match of the two-match test series at home against the South African cricket team. The series will be played from October 21 to November 2. The first test will be played in Mirpur and the second in Chattogram.

This will also be the first assignment of newly appointed interim coach Phil Simmons after BCB sacked former coach Chandika Hathurusinghe due to disciplinary reasons.

Talking about the squad, star speedster Khaled Ahmed has been excluded from the Bangladesh squad for the first test against South Africa. Najmul Hasan Shanto will continue to lead the side. Bangladesh are currently placed seventh in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 standings.

Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named in the test squad for the Mirpur test against South Africa, and it will be the last time Shakib will play in whites for his nation.

When Bangladesh toured India for a two-match test series, Shakib confirmed that he has decided to quit test cricket, and that, if he is given security assurances, the Mirpur test against South Africa will be his last outing in this format.

Shakib has so far featured in 71 test matches, scoring 4609 runs with five centuries, and has taken 246 wickets.

Shakib has already retired from T20Is. The all-rounder, though, will continue to represent the national side in ODI cricket. He is expected to retire from ODIs after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
