Shakib Al Hasan was left out of Bangladesh’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has finally been cleared of a suspect action after failing the bowling test twice earlier in January.
The news is a huge relief for Shakib, who was excluded from Bangladesh’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad as the selectors didn’t want to pick him as a specialist batter. The suspension meant the all-rounder couldn’t bowl in the ICC tournament, which he had earmarked as his farewell tournament in international cricket.
Shakib Al Hasan finally found success in his third trial during the latest bowling action test in England. With Bangladesh’s two-test series against Zimbabwe scheduled for April 20, it remains to be seen if Shakib will return to the national team.
Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling action cleared after reassessment test
Speaking to Cricbuzz, the 37-year-old confirmed that the news about the clearance of his bowling action is true. He said, “The news is right (passing the bowling test), and I am cleared to bowl again.“
Shakib Al Hasan’s last international appearance for Bangladesh came against India in the Kanpur test in October, where he scored just nine runs across two innings and took four wickets.
Earlier, Shakib registered his names in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction as well as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft, but remained unsold in both.
His bowling action first came under scrutiny during a County Championship match for Surrey against Somerset in September 2024. He was subsequently suspended by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for an illegal action following an independent evaluation.
He then underwent two separate reassessments first in England and then in India but, failed on both occasions before passing this time.
