ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim join elite list of cricketers to play 5 or more ODI World Cups
Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim have both played in five ICC Cricket World Cup so far.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 kicked off on October 5 in Ahmedabad with a game between England and New Zealand. Black Caps registered a thrashing win over the defending champions to prove their contention for the title. Saturday will host two games. The first game is underway between two Asian rivals. Bangladesh are taking on Afghanistan at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
This game is important for both teams to start well in the tournament with a win. Both teams have been playing some regular cricket in the last few months and are aware of each other's strengths and weaknesses. It started when Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and put Afghanistan to bat first. The current match situation is more towards Bangladesh, and Afghanistan have lost seven wickets for 150 runs.

After featuring in the playing XI, both Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim have joined an elite list of cricketers that have featured in five or more Cricket ODI World Cup events. This is the fifth edition for both Bangladesh's stalwarts, as they made their World Cup debuts in 2007. There are 17 other players who have played in five or more Cricket World Cups in history.
Only Sachin Tendulkar and Javed Miandad have played in six World Cup editions each. Shakib has been the best player to represent Bangladesh at the highest level. The all-rounder has played 30 matches so far in ODI World Cups. He has scored 1146 runs at a batting average of 45.84 and was one of the highest scorers in the 2019 World Cup. He has also picked up 37 wickets with the bat and is the third-highest wicket-taker among the active cricketers.
On the other hand, Mushfiqur Rahim is another consistent performer for Bangladesh. Since making his debut in the 2007 World Cup, he has played 28 innings and scored 877 runs at an average of 38.13 with a best of 102 not out. Rahim has also scored one hundred and six half-centuries so far. These two players will be key for Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
