Shakib Al Hasan disappointed after Bangladesh's poor performance against Netherlands
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan on Bangladesh's run in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Bangladesh have been found wanting against Netherlands, and skipper Shakib Al Hasan didn't mince any words. Playing in Kolkata, Bangladesh, should have ideally felt at home, but it was the orange brigade that came out in flying colours.
Bangladesh's poor show continues
After the humiliating defeat, Shakib pointed out that his side were ordinary on the field in spite of an impressive effort with the ball. The star all-rounder, who has had a rather bad patch with the bat, said that Bangladesh have been struggling in the ongoing World Cup from the very beginning. Edwards was dropped twice in the same over, and he went on to hit a game-changing 68. Bangladesh failed to close out Dutch batting innings, and it eventually hurt them badly.
Netherlands call the shots in Kolkata
With the bat, Tigers were hapless. Four of the top six batters perished with single-digit scores. Asian team kept losing wickets at regular intervals and never really got going. Bangladesh were in big trouble after being restricted to 70/6, chasing a competitive target of 230.
During the post-match interview, it was very evident thet Bangladesh skipper was disappointed with the teams performance. "I thought we bowled very well. We should have restricted them to 160–170. We have been very poor with the bat throughout the tournament. This is as bad as it gets. It is very difficult from here. We need to take this on our chin. Throughout this tournament, we have been struggling. I'm not sure what's going on in the minds. Very unlike the Bangladesh team. The fans have been supporting us through our ups and downs." Shakib stated this post-match.
Bangladesh's chances of making it to the semi-finals look slim right now, while Netherlands will fancy their chances. Dutch side can still spring a surprise or two in the upcoming matches.
