Shakib Al Hasan was named in a murder case along with 147 others last month in Dhaka.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official has confirmed that veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan won’t be getting any trouble upon returning to his country. Shakib Al Hasan was among 147 people named in a murder case in Dhaka last month. Hasan was also a Member of Parliament from Magura-2 constituency under the Awami League Party.

Shakib was named in a murder case of Mohammad Rubel, who died on August 7. He was wounded in the firing during the protests on August against the ruling party, Awami League Party.

Notably, when Sheikh Hasina resigned as the Prime Minister on August 5 following nationwide protests, Shakib was playing in the Global T20 League in Canada. After that, the veteran cricketer traveled to Pakistan for a test series. At the time of nationwide protests, Shakib was not present in Bangladesh.

There is a clear message from Bangladesh government: BCB official

Shahriar Nafees, who is in charge of the BCB’s cricket operations, cleared that the interim Bangladesh government had clarified that Shakib Al Hasan would not be harassed by anyone upon returning to his nation.

Nafees further clarified that unless Shakib is injured or there is any selection issue, he would not be dropped from the Bangladesh team for the home series against South Africa.

“I think the honourable chief adviser, law adviser and sports adviser have spoken very clearly regarding Shakib Al Hasan,” Shahriar Nafees said.

“There is a clear message from the Bangladesh government that no one will be harassed unfairly in the cases that have been filed. We believe the interim government has made its position very clear on Shakib. Unless there is an injury problem or a selection-related issue, I personally don’t see any reason as of now why Shakib Al Hasan should not play in Bangladesh in the home series,” BCB official Nafees added.

Currently, the Bangladesh cricket team is in India for a two-match test series. Shakib is also part of the ongoing test series. Bangladesh lost the opening match in Chennai by 280 runs.

During that match, Shakib sustained an injury to his finger while batting against Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah. Earlier, the BCB official cleared that Shakib’s availability for the Kanpur test will be taken after medical assessments. The second test in Kanpur will be played from September 27 to October 1.
