Shane Bond joined the Mumbai Indians camp in 2015 and served as bowling coach for 9 years.

Former New Zealand pace bowler Shane Bond has ended his long association with the Mumbai Indians. Bond served as Mumbai Indians' bowling coach for consecutive 9 years after he retired from international cricket. Bond was a member of the MI setup for a long time and played a few games for the franchise in the Indian Premier League. Bond also served as head coach of MI’s sister franchise MI Emirates in the International League T20.

Mumbai Indians went on to win 4 IPL titles under Shane Bond whose tenure began for the franchise in the IPL 2015. MI won the illustrious titles in 2015, 17, 19, and 2020 under Bond as Bowling coach. Bond will be replaced by another MI legend Lasith Malinga. Malinga will be joining the MI camp in 2024. The former Sri Lankan pacer served as a bowling consultant for Rajasthan Royals in the previous three IPL seasons.

Shane Bond thanks the MI camp

Before departing from MI, Shane Bond thanked MI and the Ambani family for the opportunity. Bond said, “I would like to thank the Ambani family for the opportunity to be part of MI One Family for the last nine seasons. It has been an incredible experience with so many great memories on and off the field.” Bond is considered one of the finest pacers in World Cricket.

Shane Bond also expressed that he will be missing the MI Paltan atmosphere. He added, “I have been lucky enough to work with and have strong relationships with so many great people, both players and staff. I will miss them all and wish them all the best for the future. Finally thanks to the MI Paltan for their support as well." Bond has been credited for giving their biggest gift in Pace bowling as Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah was spotted and shaped by Bond in MI Camp.

Bond had a injury-prone career as a pace bowler and skipped many games due to injuries. But whenever he played and entered the field it was a display of lethal pace bowling. Similarly, Bond shaped several pacers under his tenure for MI along with Jasprit Bumrah. Bond has played 18 Tests, 82 ODIs, and 20 T20I games for New Zealand. Bond retired from competitive cricket in 2012.
