Shikhar Dhawan’s statement will be recorded by the federal probe agency under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has come under massive scrutiny. He has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in connection with an alleged money laundering case involving a legal betting app.

The reports in PTI claimed that Shikhar Dhawan’s summons is related to 1xBet, an online betting platform. The former Indian cricketer has allegedly been promoting the app on social media. The ED has now asked him to appear and join the investigation to clarify his role in the promotional activities.

Shikhar Dhawan’s statement will be recorded by the federal probe agency under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as part of the investigation. The reports claimed that Dhawan has been associated with the app through certain endorsements.

Since the last few months, the agency has been putting in the hard yards so that famous personalities don’t promote illegal betting apps that are alleged to have duped numerous people and investors worth crores of rupees.

A lot of cricketers, including Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina, have been under the scanner for allegedly promoting illegal betting apps. The duo recorded their statements recently with the Central investigation agency.

This comes after the Government of India passed the ‘Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025’ in the Parliament. As per the bill, all real-money gaming platforms like Dream11 and others have been banned in the country.

Dream11, which was the lead sponsor of the Indian Cricket Team, also pulled out of its deal. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side will now be playing Asia Cup 2025 without a lead sponsor. The tournament will be played from 9th September to 28th September in the United Arab Emirates.
